I know this entry is going to upset at least one person who reads this journal but that's too bad.
I was riding home from work today when a song came on my radio called "It's America" (yes, I listen to country music, yes I like it, and yes it makes me cry sometimes) I'm posting the lyrics and embedding the video because I think it's important- the song really does touch on what I love about this country.
Through RPGs I've come in contact with so many people in so many different countries and if you're one of those poeple you know how much I ADORE other cultures. I can't get enough, it's all soooo interesting to me. But I've never been one of those people who regrets living in America- I've never even been one of those people who regrets living in Michigan despite how badly things are going or how messed up our weather is. I'm proud to be American because that's who I am just like friends who are Swedish and Austrailian and Japanese and Scottish- I'm an American and it's impossible to seperate myself from that- I don't think people even realise how much their nationality effects who they are.
I don't think America is the best country on Earth, I don't think that other countries should conform to us, I don't think that we have all the answers or should police everyone else. But I think there are a lot of good things about America and Americans and there is a flavor here that is sometimes boring to me, but I've realised that you just don't find it anywhere else (just like you can't find what makes Denmark Denmark in America.) This song touches on that flavor and I think it really speaks to why I am glad to live here.
